Deadline to link Aadhaar and PAN with insurance policies is March 31, 2018

You should not wait for the last minute to link you LIC (Life Insurance Corporation) insurance policy with Aadhaar and PAN (Permanent Account Number). Insurance regulator IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India) on Monday extended the time to link Aadhaar card number - the 12-digit Unique Identity Number or UID issued by the UIDAI - to insurance policies till March 31, 2018. The earlier deadline to link Aadhaar and PAN with insurance policies was December 31, 2017. In a circular issued on Monday to all the life and non-life health insurers, IRDAI said the date of submission of the Aadhaar number (UID) and Permanent Account Number (PAN) or Form 60 by clients to the reporting entity is March 31, 2018.

For the convenience of policyholders, LIC is offering both online and offline ways to link their policies with Aadhaar and PAN. In the offline facility, a policyholder has to fill up a form and submit the form along with requisite documents to an LIC branch office.

LIC has however cautioned policyholders against some messages in social media that ask policyholders to link their Aadhaar number by sending SMS to a designated number. LIC has clarified that it has not sent any such message. LIC also said that "as and when LIC will enable linking of Aadhaar number with policies through SMS, our website will be duly updated of this option".

How To Link LIC Policy With Aadhaar Number Online:

1) Keep your Aadhaar Card and PAN card handy along with the list of policies.

2) Log in to LIC's website.  The link for linking Aadhaar and PAN with LIC policies is displayed prominently on LIC's homepage.

Adhaar is here. Aadhaar is everywhere. Days after government made the Aadhaar number mandatory for filing tax returns ordered re-verification of mobile numbers using Aadhaar data, a report now suggests that soon it may become mandatory to board domestic flights. If implemented, the new mechanism will require Indian travellers to authenticate their ID using the Aadhaar biometric authentication before boarding a plane.

Come 2018 and domestic flyers out of Kolkata, Ahmebadad and Vijayawada will whiz through airports if they link their Aadhaar number (UIDAI) to air tickets at the time of booking. Airports Authority of India (AAI) will implement the government's ambitious "digi yatra" programme as a pilot project early next year from these three airports and then roll out this Aadhaar-based seamless travel experience at other airports.

Aadhaar-verified passengers can now book 12 tickets on IRCTC (Indian Railway)

Indian Railways has increased the monthly cap on tickets booked on the ICRTC portal from six to 12 for Aadhaar-verified passengers, officials said.

The move, which came into effect on October 26, is believed to be an innovative way for the railways to encourage passengers to link their Aadhar numbers to their online booking accounts on IRCTC.

IRCTC officials said passengers can continue to book up to six tickets a month without validating their Aadhaar cards (UIDAI).

If the number goes beyond six, the Aadhaar number of the user and one of the passengers should be updated in the IRCTC portal, an official explained.

Users on the IRCTC portal have to click on Aadhaar KYC under the 'my profile' category and update their Aadhaar number.

A one-time password (OTP) will be sent to the mobile number linked to Aadhaar and should be entered for verification.

In addition, the Aadhaar number of any one of the accompanying passengers should
also be updated under the 'master list'. This will be validated through an OTP.
