Earthquake in Turkey 2023

News Update about the earthquake of Turkey

1.       Nine hours apart and with magnitudes of 7.8 and 7.5 on the Richter scale, the quakes rocked Turkey and Syria and were the region’s strongest in nearly a century.

2.       This year is a critical inflection point for Turkey, as it approaches its presidential election on May 14.

3.       Our Turkish Honorable President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s response to the disaster — and potential calls for accountability as to why so many Turkish buildings collapsed so quickly — will play a major role in his political future.

4.       The death toll from the Turkey-Syria earthquakes has passed 17,000 Approx (Seventeen Thousand). At least 14,014 Approx (Fourteen Thousand Fourteen) people have died in Turkey, according to the country’s President RECEP Tayyip Erdogan, while at least 3,162 (Three Thousand One Hundred Sixty Two) have been killed in Syria.

5.       The first UN aid convoy has reached rebel-held northwest Syria from Turkey.

6.       Hopes of finding survivors are quickly fading and residents of southeastern Turkey and northwestern Syria are criticizing what they call slow search and rescue efforts.

7.       Yet amid the freezing cold, rescue workers are still pulling people out alive from the rubble, as search operations continue for a fourth day.
