The Union Cabinet on Sunday (10.09.2017) appointed Shri Piyush Goyal as the
new railway minister. Goyal, who took charge from Shri Suresh Prabhu, will be the
third railway minister of the Modi government. Its an appointment that
reinforces the focus on infrastructure development, of which the railways
accounts for a big chunk.
Newly appointed railway
minister of Government of India shri Piyush Goyal on Saturday (09.09.2017) said
the target of removing all unmanned level crossings could be achieved within a
year, instead of the initial goal of doing it in three years.
Almost an hour
before the big Cabinet rejig, according to Times Now, power minister Shri
Piyush Goyal was handed the Railways portfolio,
replacing Shri Suresh Prabhu (former Railway Minister) who had offered to
resign after a spate of train accidents in the last one year.
