A total of 826 candidates is in the fray for 69 constituencies. This phase of the election will not only feature some strong political personalities, this phase is also an acid test for political parties to prove that they still hold sway in their strongholds.
The people of Uttar Pradesh have come out in large numbers in the first two phases of elections. The first phase of elections saw 64% voting, whereas the second phase recorded 66% turnout. These are not ordinary numbers—they are the highest turnout ever recorded in the state’s electoral history. This clearly means that the electorate is coming out to vote to effect a major change. It is a subject of debate as to who would be at the receiving end of the voters.
