Deadline to link Aadhaar and PAN with insurance policies is March 31, 2018

You should not wait for the last minute to link you LIC (Life Insurance Corporation) insurance policy with Aadhaar and PAN (Permanent Account Number). Insurance regulator IRDAI (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India) on Monday extended the time to link Aadhaar card number - the 12-digit Unique Identity Number or UID issued by the UIDAI - to insurance policies till March 31, 2018. The earlier deadline to link Aadhaar and PAN with insurance policies was December 31, 2017. In a circular issued on Monday to all the life and non-life health insurers, IRDAI said the date of submission of the Aadhaar number (UID) and Permanent Account Number (PAN) or Form 60 by clients to the reporting entity is March 31, 2018.

For the convenience of policyholders, LIC is offering both online and offline ways to link their policies with Aadhaar and PAN. In the offline facility, a policyholder has to fill up a form and submit the form along with requisite documents to an LIC branch office.

LIC has however cautioned policyholders against some messages in social media that ask policyholders to link their Aadhaar number by sending SMS to a designated number. LIC has clarified that it has not sent any such message. LIC also said that "as and when LIC will enable linking of Aadhaar number with policies through SMS, our website will be duly updated of this option".

How To Link LIC Policy With Aadhaar Number Online:

1) Keep your Aadhaar Card and PAN card handy along with the list of policies.

2) Log in to LIC's website.  The link for linking Aadhaar and PAN with LIC policies is displayed prominently on LIC's homepage.
